Polyester Strapping vs. Other Types of Strapping

Unlike alternative strapping products, PAC polyester combines the strength of steel strapping with the safety and economy of plastic to maximize performance. The result is a more secure load at a lower cost with improved safety compared to other strapping alternatives.

If you’re considering converting from Steel to PET strapping, here are some benefits of using PAC polyester strapping over steel strapping are:

  • Split Resistance – Unlike with steel strapping, a small nick or cut in PET strapping will not propagate across the width of the strap and break it.
  • High Retained Tension – The high tension capability of PAC high-performance polyester allows it to be applied tight, and once it’s on your load, it stays tight.
  • Elongation Recovery – When applied properly, PAC high-performance polyester will stretch under tension, yet still recover most of its elongation after initial application. This results in a strap that stays tight even if loads shrink or settle during transit

Manual Tools

For lower volume applications, a manual tensioner and sealer using a special serrated seal to maximize joint efficiency are a cost-effective solution.

Using Polyester Strapping with Strapping Machines and Systems

PAC’s high-performance polyester strapping is designed for use with pallet strapping systems. It is not compatible with semi-automatic or automatic strapping machines. If your operation uses a semi-automatic or automatic machine, polypropylene strapping is the correct material for that equipment.

For pallet strapping applications, polyester strapping is compatible with PAC’s PSS733 series and Pallet PAC Plus 602 series. These systems are the more common choice for polyester strapping and can manage the full strapping process, including tensioning and sealing, within an integrated conveying and wrapping line.

When selecting polyester strapping for use with these systems, confirm your strapping falls within the following compatible ranges:

  • Width: 3/8″ to 3/4″
  • Thickness: 0.023″ to 0.040″

Polyester Strapping Application Tips

  • For maximum performance, polyester strapping should be tensioned to the working range: 40–60% of break strength.
  • Be careful not to over specify polyester strap. Higher residual tension is possible if PET is applied at a higher tension, not a heavier strap.
  • Battery powered tools to apply polyester strap offer the fastest application method and the highest joint efficiency of the strap loop – typically over 80% of the listed break strength
